Meet Our Amarillo Optometrists
Dr. Jaya M. Pathapati
Dr. Jaya M Pathapati grew up in Yonkers, N.Y. She got her Bachelor’s of Science in Biology and was awarded the highest distinction in Biology at the College of Mt. St. Vincent. She went on to receive her Doctor of Optometry from State University of NY, College of Optometry. She rotated in externships that were hospital based and in the Veteran’s Affair in NY. Soon afterwards she moved with her husband to Amarillo, Texas. She has practiced in the Panhandle of the past 18 years.
She strives to give the best patient care and loves a challenge especially in hard to fit and multifocal contact lenses. Her passion for patient care continues as she is constantly looking to improve the patient experience in her practice with technology and education. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, and the Texas Panhandle Association. She volunteers doing school Screenings and Heal the City Amarillo.
When not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband, two children and her Shih tzu dog. She loves to travel, read and paint, especially the beautiful sunsets of amarillo.
Randal D. Jentzen, OD FAAO
Doctor Jentzen, a native of New Mexico, received his Doctor of Optometry from Northeastern State University College of Optometry and also holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Eastern New Mexico University, and a Masters of Business Administration from Texas Tech University.
Doctor Jentzen began practicing in Texas with Amarillo Eye Associates and later went into solo practice in Pampa and Borger, Texas. He moved with his family to practice in Amarillo in 2001. In 2006 Doctor Jentzen and Doctor Pathapati joined forces and founded EyeCare Plus, LLP. In that time, the practice has experienced tremendous growth of services provided and offered to patients seeking excellence in eye care.
Doctor Jentzen is a member of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, Amarillo Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, The American Optometric Association, the Texas Optometric Association, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. He has volunteered as a consultant for the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education and recently accepted an appointment to the council. He loves reading, cycling, traveling, and spending time with family.
He is dedicated to lifelong learning and passionate about the profession of optometry.
Dr. Pylant passionately views vision health care as more than just seeing clearly but rather managing the overall health of each patient’s eyes. She embraces the challenge of vision protection and preservation through utilization of current technologies and scientific research.
Graduating Amarillo High School with honors, Dr. Pylant continued her education through Texas A&M University in College Station receiving her Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology. She then continued her graduate education at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio receiving her Doctorate of Optometry. During this time in her professional development, she received numerous clinical excellence awards. Dr. Pylant continued with a post-graduate residency at the Thomas E. Creek Amarillo Veterans Affairs Healthcare Hospital specializing in Primary Eye Care and Ocular Disease in academic affiliation with Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry.
After clinical hours, she enjoys spending quality time with her friends and family. Dr. Pylant has served on numerous faith based mission teams and volunteers weekly in her local children’s ministry. Having recently completing the Oklahoma City Half Marathon, she enjoys running and an active lifestyle.
